CHRISTY ABRAMS, BSN
RNC-OB, CCE, IBCLC, SPBCPE, PMH-C

Nurse Educator

Yes, there are a lot of letters after my name. For the past 15 years, I have worked in a Level IV Labor and Delivery Unit, now working in postpartum lactation, in Central NJ. Over these years, I have become passionate about educating pregnant women and their support teams about Labor & Delivery, Postpartum, Baby Care, and Breastfeeding.
I have taught privately and hospital-based childbirth, baby care and breastfeeding education (CCE or certified childbirth educator), Spinnig Babies (SpBCPE), am certified in Perinatal Mental Health (PMH-C) and am an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC)
My goal is to provide the information you need in a fun and humorous way. I make myself available via email at any time for follow-up questions and will work with you to ensure that your experience is a positive one.

Having an educator with current practical experience sets me apart from many other educators in the birth field.

Who I work with:

I love to create relationships in pregnancy. I think the best scenario is for parents to go into birth, breastfeeding, and postpartum understanding what to expect. What is normal, what is abnormal, and what we can do in either scenario?  When I walk into a postpartum room for a consult, I can clearly tell the difference between the parents that have invested in education versus those who did not.

In postpartum I work with newborns. The newborn period is 0-3 months with my preference being brought in within the first few days to week. Why? Honestly, it is easier to fix issues early. This does not mean that issues cannot develop down the line but having a good foundation is better than seeking help weeks into a breastfeeding journey that had difficulties from the beginning. It does not mean that I cannot help or that difficulties cannot be fixed but they may take time, dedication, and other referrals and I like to be upfront about that from the start.

An in-home baby care consult is a great way to focus on understanding your baby once they are here. Classes provide the foundation and consultation makes it click. This does not take the place of a pediatrician visit. They are looking at your baby in very different ways that are important. With a baby care consult, we will walk through identifying cues, sponge bathing, tummy time, diapering, and comfort techniques ( it can take time to be comfortable holding a newborn!) It will also allow you to ask questions that are not necessarily addressed by the pediatrician.
